Both acetone and naphtha will remove the glue without harming the tile. The tile is a high-quality porcelain and will not be effected by these chemicals.

Acetone and naphtha could however have an effect on this particular grout product as well as the plastic trays under the tile. Cleaning of surface glue should be controlled and deliberate and no damage should occur.

In my opinion the first attempt at cleaning the glue should be by using a razor-blade scraper. This will remove the bulk of the adhesive. Then if a noticeable residue remains the above mentioned chemicals could be used.

Usually, some rubbing will remove any adhesive residue on the tile surface.

We've investigated with the adhesive manufacturer and they recommend Xylene to remove any cured adhesive from the tile surface.

We also tried Acetone using a cloth and with some rubbing, the adhesive residue came right off. Like most household solvents, you'll want to ventilate the area well and avoid inhaling the fumes. Also, don't spill the Acetone onto the plastic interlocking tabs - it will soften the plastic.

Acetone is available in the paint department of most hardware stores. I bought a quart container for less than $10.

These are strong chemicals. They should not be allowed to stand on the tile, and they should not be allowed to come in contact with the grout.

Most of the time I found the abrasive in the grout removed any of the adhesive left from the paper. let me know how it comes out.

HELP ASAP!! We're almost ready to grout. HOW do I get rid of the glue on the face of tiles (after removing papers placed between tiles for packing)? There are blobs smeared all over & the usual adhesive removers, such as "Goo-Gone" do not work.
