I'm also planning a pattern with 12x12 and 6x6 tiles. I found it helpful to draw out my pattern on graph paper scaled to the size of the room. It'll make an instant reference when I'm laying out the tile. I did buy some extra tile for scrap and replacement, but with the drawing I could count how many tiles of each type it should take.

If you use 80%12x12 and 20%6x6 you should be fine, depending on the layout.

I found starting in the center of the room assembling a section and moving it around to find the best balance works best for me.

Remember to layout the floor so you have at least 2 tabs on the tiles.

Good luck. It's a great looking pattern when you're done. send photos.

How do you estimate how many 6x6 tiles you would need to complete the spiral design (I need 175 12x12 to complete the floor for the straight pattern). Also how/where do you start the spiral design.
