It's best to remove the tabs at the tub, but if you want you can make the gap a little smaller, I usually go about an 1/8" at tubs and shower bases, so you get a nice caulk joint. Just make sure the remainder of the perimeter gaps are a full 1/4" and everything will be fine. Good luck!
